I'm honing my DIY skills this weekend, putting together a stylish house for my cat's litter tray.

Obviously, my cat thought she could do it better than me and tried to take over a few times (see my stories for details). Luckily she only nudged the camera a little so I wasn't too upset with the resulting video.

The second recipe I made from Together were these beignets - flavoured with a little cardamom (the one spice I usually hate), these were sweet and soft and perfect on their own with a cup of tea or with jam or cream cheese or just butter (yes, I tried them all - research😉). My boyfriend wasn't quite as much of a fan because he couldn't get over the fact that they weren't quite bread but they weren't quite cake either.

I think they have a similar texture to a scone inside and I was more than happy to eat several straight out of the oven, then later cold, then the next day lightly toasted with my lunchtime soup... 🤷‍♀️ #cookbookchallenge #stopmotionanimation #foodvideos #stopmotionvideo #creativepreneur #hubbcommunitykitchen

A quick flick through Together, and a sneak peak at the next recipe I tried from this book.

I really love the variety of recipes in Kitchen, and got ideas for dishes that I'd never seen before. I also really like that each recipe gives a little insight into the person who created it and who they generally cook for every day.

Anybody got any favourites from this book that I should try?

Anyone else buy all of the cookbooks but then hardly ever use them?

I have piles of recipe books that I've excitedly bought, read cover to cover imagining all the yummy things I'm going to try... Then I generally put them straight on my bookshelf and promptly forget all about them!

So I thought I'd start a little series here, trying some of the recipes to see how they turn out - and hopefully this will help me remember to actually start using my cookbooks properly.

First up, Together by the Hubb Community Kitchen - all profits from the sale of this book go to The Royal Foundation for the benefit of the Hubb Community Kitchen, which was opened after the Grenfell Tower fire to give women who had been displaced a space to cook for their families.

The first recipe I tried from this book were these Iraqi Lamb Croquettes - the coating is made from basmati rice steamed with turmeric then blended into a sticky dough. The filling has lamb, spices, raisins and pine nuts and is totally delicious.
I think my technique might need some work, but I'm pretty pleased for a first attempt😊
